روش استفاده از Want to در محاوره : متن جلسه پنجم

These easy lessons

will help you practice

common pronunciation changes

that almost all English speakers make.

By learning these changes,

you’ll understand English more easily,

and your English will sound

more like a native speaker.

And if you’re a new English speaker…

Don’t worry.

Because these lessons

use simple vocabulary.

When I talk to others

in friendly conversation,

I often speed up my speech.

I change words

to make them faster to say.

For example,

when I speak to other friends,

I pronounce “want to” as “wanta.”

I say to friends, “I wanta see a movie.”

When I just want to be clear

I say “I want to see a movie”.

But in casual conversation,

I use “wanta”

It’s much faster and

my English speaking friends

all understand and make this change

as they speak.

So, as a person learning English,

you must know about these changes

if you want to clearly understand

what is said to you.

And you can use these changes

to make your English sound

more conversational,

more like a native speaker.

Does that sound good?

Alright then….

Let’s get started with

Lesson #1

Let’s practice that word wanta.

“want to” changes to “wanta,”

the word “to” is pronounced “ta.”

Repeat-after-me

I wanta go shopping.

I wanta go ta the beach.

I wanta go fishing.

I wanta go eat something.

I wanta go see it.

I wanta go there.

I wanta go home.

I wanta play in the sand.

I wanta sit on the beach.

I wanta walk my dog.

I wanta walk on the beach.

When you speak slowly and clearly,

you say “to.”

When you speak

in normal conversation,

you often say “ta.”

For example;

I want to go to the beach.

this becomes…

I wanta go ta the beach.

However, saying “wanta” isn’t

the fastest way that it’s pronounced.

I often change the words “want to”

to a single sound “wanna.”

Let’s practice that.

Repeat-after-me

I wanna go shopping.

I wanna go fishing.

I wanna go eat something.

I wanna go see it.

I wanna go there.

I wanna go home.

I wanna go ta the beach.

I wanna take my family ta the beach.

I wanna go ta the beach tamorrow.

I wanna go swimming taday.

I don’t wanna walk home.

Do you wanna dance?

He doesn’t wanna come with us.

All I wanna do is go home.

They wanna stay at the beach all day.

When I say, “He wants to”

I change “wants to” to “wansta.”

Let’s practice that…

Repeat-after-me

He wansta play in the sand.

He wansta learn ta surf.

He wansta take his shoes off and run.

She wansta watch TV right now.

The dog wansta play catch.

He wansta go to the bank.

She wansta go home.

Using “wanta” and “wanna”

and “wansta”

in casual conversation

is perfectly fine.

But these changes

aren’t usually written.

You should not write these changes

in written letters or school papers,

because they are spoken changes.

They would look incorrect

when written.

So, in general, I don’t write these.

When speaking to a friend,

I might say, “I wanna go home.”

But if this situation is formal or

I need to speak clearly, I would say,

“I want to go home.”

If I was in a meeting, I might say,

“I wanna say something.”

But, if people didn’t understand me,

I’d slow down and say,

“I want to say something.”

So in formal situations,

you must be able to slow down

and use formal pronunciation.

Okay, now…

Let’s use today’s changes and

practice with this conversation.

Hey, how’s it going?

Pretty good, do you wanna go eat tonight?

Sure, what do you wanna eat?

Well, my friend is coming

and she wansta eat some Tai food.

I just had Tai for lunch,

I don’t wanna eat it again.
